Personal growth a key to true success

If there was a word that I would undoubtedly associate myself with, no matter what, it would be ‘growth’.

“When you stop growing, you start dying” ~ William S. Burroughs.

A person who lacks a growth mindset, is a person who is living below potential. Growth can be implemented in different forms of life, it knows no bounds, and can only be limited by the subject. Growth can be lateral and vertical, it truly is multifaceted, and only has benefits when intentions are right.

On a personal note, if you were to ask me why I am passionate about this topic, I would explain that Growth is what keeps me going, it is a fuel, internally produced with external evident outputs. As previously mentioned, growth is multifaceted, meaning there are various areas of life that growth happens including spiritual, emotional, character, professional, physical… A well rounded individual is a successful individual, success is driven by growth. No person can be successful without a growth mindset, if you don’t yearn to be better you will never be better, but if you yearn for growth, the sky is your limit.

Now that we have established that growth is vital in any successful success story, let us dig deeper into some areas where growth is necessary.

Spiritual growth- I am a firm believer that your spiritual life heavily influences your physical. I am a Christian and the Bible encourages growth throughout the book, in fact, the word “growth” appears 8443 times in the Bible. This highlights that God himself has a growth mindset. Take it from the beginning, Gen 1:28 “be fruitful and multiply the earth” one of God’s first instructions to man involved multiplication and fruitfulness, it centres around growth. Specifically honing in on growing your spiritual life, the more you seek growth in knowledge, understanding, love of God, the better you become. He has made promises of results such as; rest (Matt 11:28-30), strength (Isaiah 40:31) and even life (Amos 4:5-6) for those who seek to grow in him.

Mental growth- Before it manifests in the physical it must first occur in the mind. The mind is the powerhouse of the body, it drives what we do, say… So, how do you grow mentally? Feed your mind with the right content, watch, read and listen to edifying content. What our mind consumes directly influences our way of thinking. My advice? Think on good things, learn new things, grow in knowledge, understanding and wisdom. The human mind can store the equivalent of 2.5million gigabytes of data, far much greater than any computing device. See your mind as your central processing unit, what data will you feed it with and will you use it to its full potential or let its potential waste? Choose wisely.

Physical growth- the fascinating thing about the human body is that it never stops growing, we are literally programmed for growth. Every second we live, our body changes, adapts, grows. With different phases of life, comes different phases and types of physical growth. When I speak of physical growth, I don’t just speak of aging, our body is capable of amazing things even in old age, but it is what we do to our bodies that we get back. Treat your body healthily, you get healthy growth, and you get the adverse results with a unhealthy lifestyle. The super power of the human body? We never stop building muscle, till the day we die, we never loose the ability to build muscle and neither does the rate of muscle growth decline. So, if you have been looking for a sign to build some muscles and treat your body well, look no further. You are welcome.

I once saw a linkedin post with the title “Where comfort lives, growth dies”. There’s so much truth in this statement,
